Pre-Dawn Start

In a year that saw the much-celebrated 30th running of Jacksonville’s River Run, another major race marked an important milestone. In a lower-key observance, the 25th Jacksonville Marathon was held on Sunday, Dec. 16. Almost two dozen Amelia Island Runners were along to celebrate finishing the marathon or accompanying half-marathon.

Predawn rains had tapered off by the 7 a.m. race start, and the predicted temperature plunge and heavy winds held off. The result was a generally mild day for running, certainly cooler than last year’s race. About 2,500 runners participated in the events, which began and ended at Bolles School on San Jose Blvd. and ran through the Mandarin area and along the St. Johns River.

Before the run - David Vigh in the Bolles gymnasium for packet pickup.
After the run - Pete and Donna Scalia relaxing at the post-race refreshment area.

Two of our AIR runners took home age-group hardware – Frank Frazier in the marathon, and Donna Scalia in the half – and several more recorded top-10 age-group finishes. We had seven marathon finishers, and 15 finishers in the half. (And if we’ve missed you, please let us know so we can add you to the list and note your accomplishment!)

Congratulations to all of our Amelia Island Runners finishers!
