| THE RACE BEGINS: Along Fernandina Beach's Greenway. |
The Fernandina Beach High School cross-country squad
came away with the Nassau County championship title Oct. 19, edging the West Nassau High Warriors of Callahan, 27-32.
Fernandina's Kevin McEntee and Shelby Kittrell were the
first boy and girl across the finish line. Amelia Island Runners Jazz and Jack
Tomassetti of FBHS placed second and fifth, respectively.
Hilliard's squad placed third with 66 points.
Competing for the first time in
the annual county championship race was the cross-country squad from
the new Yulee High School. While they didn't field
enough runners to qualify for the standings, they made history
as the first Hornets ever in the event.
The 3.1-mile course was run along the Egans Creek
Greenway in Fernandina Beach.
