Hundreds of runners and walkers, both young and young at heart, enjoyed a beautiful day and scenic course Sept. 25 at the third annual Communities in Schools Back to School Beach Run. Here are just a few of the hundreds of finishers in the 5K and one-mile fun runs!

It was the largest field yet for the annual fun run and walk, which starts and ends at Peters Point on the beaches of Amelia Island. Students ran for free, and cash participation awards of $800 and $400 were presented to Fernandina Beach High School and Hilliard Middle/Senior High. The event was made possible with the help of lots of volunteers, adult runners sponsoring students, and numerous business sponsors, including major sponsors Rick Keffer Dodge-Chrysler-Jeep, Baptist Medical Center Nassau and Wal-Mart.
