Tom and Vincent started running in college and high school, respectively. Last December, Vincent says, they were discussing local runners' frequent lament that for a properly fitted, "good quality running shoe, you have to go to Jacksonville." They decided it was a need that they could fill -- "and now, six months later, here we are."

Merchandise has been arriving during the past several weeks. The store now carries running shoes from New Balance, Saucony, Mizuno, Asics, Adidas and Brooks. There's also running apparel, and accessory brands like Polar and Fuel Belt. plus a variety of Gu products.

"Our main focus will be quality shoes and apparel, and service, at a fair price. We also want to be very active in the community," Vincent said. They hope to expand as the business grows.

And how about the name, Current Running?

"I wanted something that was indigenous to our area," he says. "The ocean current, and current product -- what's new and hot."

The new store, at 815 S. Eighth St., is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays, and closed Sundays. For more information, call (904) 432-8259.
