2008 Outback Steakhouse Distance Classic
November 27, 2008 - Jacksonville, Florida

Finished at Last
Kathy Murray, thankful to be crossing the finish line after 13.1 miles.
The Thanksgiving Day 1/2 Marathon has been a tradition since around 1983 when it was known as the Bulova Half Marathon. The original sponsor was Espling Jewelry and category winners received very nice watches. Later on, Outback Steakhouse became the sponsor and the awards became something more edible in the way of gift certificates good at any Outback Steakhouse Restaurant.

The race has grown to become one of the major races in northeast Florida. Apparently, lots of runners like to get in a long run before sitting down to a big Thanksgiving Day meal.

The weather conditions were on the chilly side at the start, but with sunny skies the temperatures rose and it became rather warm for the slower runners. There was also a 6K event for those who were less ambitious, distance-wise.
