The Pirates on the Run 5K/10K and Kids’ Runs are almost here! The 5K/10K will start at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 with a new starting point at St. Peter's Church (801 Atlantic Ave.), finishing at Central Park.

If you are unfamiliar with the location of St. Peter's Church, here are some directions.

Egan's Creek

IMPORTANT NOTICE: The 10K course has changed. Both race courses run through Fernandina's side streets and onto Egan's Creek Greenway where runners will enjoy beautiful views of nature and wildlife through a hard-packed, grass cross-country route. The 10K segment through downtown Fernandina Beach has been replaced with an additional Greenway route, totaling about 4 miles in the 10K.

Pirates in full costume will be posted along the course and handing out Mardi Gras beads to runners.

The scoring for the 5K and 10K races will be done with timing provided by 1st Place Sports.

KIDS' FUN RUNS
A half-mile and one-mile Fun Run for Children 10 and younger begins at 9:45 a.m. at Central Park. Children's entry fee is $10. Awards will be presented to the top three girls and boys in the one-mile run.

REGISTRATION & FEES for 5K and 10K races
$25.00 per person on race day. Preregistration and online registration are closed.

T-shirts: We regret that we have run out of adult t-shirts! Youth sizes are still available.

Packet Pickup: Packet pickup for preregistered runners will be Friday, Feb. 20 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Nassau Health Foods (833 T J Courson Rd. in front of Wal*Mart). Race Packets can also be picked up at St. Peter's Church on race day beginning at 7:00 a.m. Champion Chips will not be in the race packets; they must be picked up on race day at the church site starting at 7 a.m.

Champion Chip Pickup and Day of Race Registration: Begins at 7:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Church. NO REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER 8:00 a.m. THE DAY OF RACE. Chips must be returned after the race. You must wear a chip on your shoe to be included in the race results. Here's a link to download and print a registration form for race-day registration.

Awards Categories: 5K and 10K division awards are: Male & Female - Overall, Masters (over 40), and Grandmasters (over 50).

Age-groups will be 3-deep for Male and Female in age-groups 3-10, 11-13, 14-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 64-69, 70&Over.

Pre-Race Activities: Cyndee Robertson will lead pre-race aerobic warm-ups after 8 a.m. to help get runners ready for the race! We're alse excited that Sara Croft will perform the National Anthem for our runners. Sara has sung the Anthem at seven Jacksonville Jaguars games, and also for the Chicago White Sox and the Bausch & Lomb tennis championships. We can't think of a more inspiring way to begin the run!

Post Race Celebration: There will be a FREE pancake breakfast for all registered runners ($5 for runners' guests) - Plus drawings for door prizes at the Awards Ceremony. The grand prize is a 4-day, 3-night stay at the Amelia Island Plantation. Must be present to win. Save your race numbers for the prize drawings and pancake breakfast!
