Start of 5K Race

Fernandina Beach's Shrimp Festival Weekend got off to another great start with the 16th annual Shrimp Festival 5K, presented by the McArthur Family YMCA.

This year's event featured a new starting line, which eliminated a 90-degree turn early in the race. And the weather was just about perfect -- overnight rains had ended, leaving behind just enough cloud cover to keep things cooler than usual for the first of May. It was also great to see so many runners, walkers and spectators wearing the Amelia Island Runners colors!

First across the finish line was last year's male winner, Josh Myers, 27, of Jacksonville, with Amanda Daws, 23, of Jekyll Island finishing first among the women. Multiple Shrimp 5K winner Ryder Leary led one-mile and half-mile fun runs for the kids.
