AIR's John McBrearty shows off the two new overall awards for senior runners --Grandmaster, age 50 and over, and Senior Grandmaster, for runners 60 and over.
The Turtle Trot should make a lot of runners happy this year -- because we'll be giving out
a lot more age-group awards.
And not only that, we'll have two new "overall" awards to honor our senior runners.
As the Turtle Trot has grown, we've split more of the 10-year age groups into 5-year groups. This year,
we add four more age groups, for a total of 13.
In addition to the traditional major awards in the 5K and 10K -- for the overall male and female winners, and the "masters"
winners, age 40 and over -- this year we are adding awards for the overall Grandmaster, age 50 and over, and Senior
Grandmaster, age 60 and over.
This year's awards will be plaques featuring beautiful sea-turtle artwork created by Sandra Baker-Hinton . Plaques will go to the top three finishers in each age group.
The age groups this year are: 13 and under, 14-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70 and older.
