AIR's Wednesday Group Run Some area runners are interested in joining one of AIR's Group Runs. They might ask, "Where do you go on your group runs? Does it always follow the same route?" The answer is that, in order to prevent group boredom, we have a few favorite routes and the group might decide on one depending on weather conditions or the preference of those present.
To race fast, you have to do a little speedwork and the track is probably the best place for this. You can do 1/4 mile surges with a recovery lap in between (or some other form of interval work). A run through Fort Clinch is always a pleasant experience and perhaps you can get someone to tell you about the "Magic Tree." Running on the beach is great for a relaxing run with fellow runners (as long as Red Tide conditions don't exist). Whatever the choice, you are sure to enjoy your run in the company of a bunch of nice people. The Wednesday AIR Group Run meets at 5:45 p.m. at the Atlantic Avenue Recreation Center Parking Lot (across from the entrance to Fort Clinch) and is open to all. In a few weeks, as the days get longer, we'll switch back to our usual starting time, 6 p.m. AIR runs are for various distances but usually last about 45 minutes, and usually end with free Gatorade back at the Rec Center parking lot.
Other Local Runs A group also runs in the mornings. Runners leave the McArthur Family YMCA on Citrona Drive at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays (about a 4-6 mile distance), and 6 a.m. Saturdays (various distances). These are not AIR club runs, but the Y group is always happy to have new people participate, just as we are. |
